240 Acres In Delaware County Preserved As Open Space
CONCORD Twp., Pa. (CBS) -- It's known as "The Valley" to locals, and today, Delaware County and Concord Township officials came together to celebrate an agreement that will preserve it from future development.
Standing against the backdrop of the autumn sun shining down on a sprawling vineyard, Delaware County council vice chairwoman Colleen Marrone said, "After years of planning, the 240 acres just west of bustling Route 202 will be preserved as open space."
It's a win for conservationists. The Conservation Fund, the Mount Cuba Center, and the Brandywine Conservancy have an agreement of sale with two developers and a real estate company, saving the land as it appeared destined for another housing development.
The groups still need to raise another 8-million dollars.
Concord Township supervisor Dominic Pileggi says after some pretty contentious township meetings over the property, "I would just hope that those that were such advocates for saving this valley will join in the passion that they had in coming to our meetings."
The groups hope to finalize the agreement by the end of spring.
