A Sneak Peek Of This Year's Philadelphia Flower Show

By Jan Carabeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It may look and feel like winter outside today, but Philadelphia is very much in bloom.

The Philadelphia Flower Show starts Saturday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

The beauty of the great outdoors, the sounds of spring, and the wonder of national parks across the country all in one place over the next nine days. This is the Philadelphia Flower Show.

"We think this is one of the most exciting shows that we've had for many, many years," said Alan Jaffe of the Philadelphia Horticultural Society.

"Explore America" is the theme and the exhibits honor the National Park Service's 100 years.

It has taken weeks for exhibitors and volunteers to create these larger than life displays. The finishing touches just put in place overnight.

"It goes from tractor trailers of saw dust to these beautiful, amazing gardens," said Tom Morris of J. Downend Landscaping.

All are stunning, all are beautiful.

Morris has brought Maine's Acadia National Park to the Delaware Valley.

"We wanted to highlight the public and private estate gardens that can also be found on Mount Desert Island," said Morris.

And where else can you travel from Acadia in Maine to the national park in Hawaii in the matter of minutes?

"We're looking at some of the most beautiful orchids you can find in the United States," said Jaffe. "These focus on what you'll find in Hawaii."

Jaffe showed CBS 3 Eyewitnesses News some of the show's gems before opening day.

"Very, very imaginative take on the giant sequoia trees, the redwoods," said Jaffe. "But doing it with the most creative, floral design."

Designs also meant to inspire.

"How you can create in own backyard."
