2016 Phila. Flower Show To Celebrate America's National Parks
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A taste of spring is coming to Philadelphia. The flower show opens March 5th, and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society held a preview Thursday morning to talk about this year's theme.
The Pennsylvania Convention Center will be transformed so visitors can "Explore America." This year's theme celebrates 100 years of the National Park Service.
While it's impossible to replicate the Grand Canyon, show chief Sam Lemheney says skilled designers will create about 100 scenes, featuring elements from iconic parks like Yellowstone, just on a much smaller scale.
"The creative juices have been flowing for over a year. I can't wait for everybody to see what all of our designers have come up with and all the ideas that they've generated," said Lemheney.
There will be a number of interactive activities around town leading up to the Flower Show. There are also special dates during flower show week, including "Wedding Wednesday" and "Fido Friday."
