2016 Mock Draft: Hackenberg No. 1 To Skins, Eagles Draft USC Safety
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Since the 2015 NFL Draft ended, what's the best way to celebrate? With a 2016 NFL Mock Draft, of course!
Todd McShay via ESPN Insider projected what the first-round of next year's draft would look like, calling it his "way-too-early" 2016 NFL mock draft. McShay has junior Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg, who went to high school in Fork Union, Virginia, going first overall to the Washington Redskins.
"We don't yet know what the future holds for Robert Griffin III, but if the projected records here from Football Outsiders come true, it's safe to assume Washington might be looking for a new franchise quarterback," McShay wrote. "Hackenberg struggled in 2014 with a 12-touchdown, 15-interception season, but he's a big-time talent with a pro-style skill set."
As for the Eagles, McShay predicts them to finish the 2015 season 9-7, obtain the No. 19 pick, and draft their second straight first-round USC player---safety Su'a Cravens.
"The Eagles need to continue to improve their secondary, and we know how much Chip Kelly likes Pac-12 players," McShay wrote. "Cravens has the size (6-1, 225 pounds) of an in-the-box safety who can also play some weakside linebacker. He has trouble covering the quickest slot receivers, but he can hold up in coverage for the most part because of his length and instincts."
Understandably, predicting the 2016 first-round before 2015 Training Camp even begins is ridiculous. Nevertheless, it's certainly fun to think about.
