2015 Promises To Be Busy Year For Road Construction In Philadelphia Region
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Major construction projects on some busy roadways across the Philadelphia area will continue in this new year.
Two new projects are planned to start in Philadelphia in late winter, one on I-95, this one to improve the on and off ramps at the Betsy Ross Bridge and Aramingo Avenue. Another on the Vine Expressway, 676, through Center City replacing seven bridges. That project will go on hold when Pope Francis visits in the fall.
In New Jersey, the eight-year, $900 million, I-295-direct-connect project is on schedule with work continuing on Route 42 and on 76.
"Building a retaining near the Market Street area, that's expected to be completed in the spring," says Department of Transportation spokesman Steve Schapiro. "In the summer, we expect to repave 76."
In the western suburbs, work continues on Route 422 in both the Pottstown area and near Valley Forge, and also on Route 202 in Chester County. And later this year, a repaving project is planned for Route 611 in Montgomery County.
