2013 Mummers' Parade Will Include More Spectator Comforts

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New Year's Day is fast approaching, and in Philadelphia that means another Mummers' Parade. This morning, city officials announced detailed plans for the event.
Of course they'll be strutting up Broad Street again.
"The Mummers parade has been unlike anything, anywhere, that you will ever see, we think pretty much in the world," said Mayor Nutter as he joined city officials and the Mummers in announcing parade plans.
The goal, they said, is a great experience for the thousands of spectators, with five performance zones along the parade route, including an expanded one at Broad and Ritner.
"Bigger and better performance areas with additional seating, bathroom facilities, DJs, all kinds of stuff going on," the mayor said.
And Congressman Bob Brady (D-Pa.) talked about the recent fire at the Fralinger's string band warehouse (see related story), after which that group donated money to affected neighbors.
"That's what Mummery is about," Brady said. "That's where their heart is. Their heart is about the city, about the neighborhood."
