3 teens charged in Roxborough HS shooting linked to 2nd murder
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Several teenagers charged in the deadly shooting outside of Roxborough High School that left a 14-year-old dead have also been charged with murdering another teen the day before.
Detectives say the shootings outside of the high school and along North 13th Street were similar.
Surveillance video shows the shooters jumping out of a car and ambushing the victims.
Last month, CBS3 reported police were looking into possible links in multiple deadly shootings.
Police have now confirmed connections in two cases.
Philadelphia police have identified three of the gunmen seen in this security video during the Roxborough High school that happened on Sept. 27.
The same three gunmen who were also captured on camera the day before on North 13th Street near Spring Garden Street as they allegedly shot 19-year-old Tahmir jones more than two dozen times and killed him.
"Some of them looked like the same ones that jumped out on my son and shot my son," Theresa Guyton said.
Jones was Guyton's son.
"Why are these young men just running around, causing havoc?" Guyton said.
Police identified the suspects in her son's murder as 15-year-old Troy Fletcher, 16-year-old Dayron Burney-Thorn and 17-year-old Zyhied Jones. All are now being charged in Jones' murder.
"It's a relief. It's kind of a relief," Guyton said. "There's not a day that I don't think about my son being gunned down."
While the motive remains unclear, Jones and Fletcher have been in custody since their arrests in connection to the Roxborough shooting last month that killed 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde.
"To know that two of them are off the street, I feel better because I know they won't hurt another child," Guyton said.
But Burney-Thorn remains on the run.
"Turn yourself in," Guyton said. "Just turn yourself in."
The US Marshals service says they are still getting tips about the Roxborough High School shooting suspects every day, and have been searching for Burney-Thorne day and night.
Authorities hope to make an arrest soon.
