Pilot Killed After 2 Planes Crash In Midair Over Hammonton Municipal Airport
HAMMONTON, N.J. (CBS) - Two planes collided in midair over Hammonton Municipal Airport Saturday afternoon, killing one of the pilots, according to a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration.
Arlene Salac of the FAA said two general aviation planes hit each other a little after 1 p.m. in a designated airspace along Academy Drive while performing aerobatic maneuvers. Salac said one of the pilots was killed as a result of the collision, but a second pilot was able to eject from the plane safely.
Police have identified the deceased pilot as David Mitchell. There is no word yet on the identity of the second pilot.
