2 Philadelphia Union Players With Local Ties Quickly Becoming Fan Favorites

By Pat Gallen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  The Philadelphia Union are in first place. That might not seem like a big deal, but it's shaping up to be their best season in team history.

Two crucial contributors of that turnaround are local products on defense, and newcomers to the Union – Keegan Rosenberry and Ken Tribbett.

"It's been a rush. We knew the potential we had in our locker room, the challenge was getting everyone else to see." Rosenberry says.

Rosenberry hails from Ronks, Pennsylvania, just outside Lancaster.

His defensive mate, Tribbett, starred at Drexel.

Tribett says, "I knew full well at going into Drexel that Philadelphia Union had a team in 2010, so it's been my goal to play at Drexel then stay in Philly to represent my new home."

There are a myriad of reasons why the Union have sprung to the top of the standings in the Eastern Conference, but among them is the leadership.

Rosenberry says, "I would think Maurice Edu is our leader. Even from his standpoint of being injured, he still has an impact."

Tribbett adds, "Brian Carroll, Maurice Edu, Sébastien Le Toux...Those guys have been established in the league for a while."

This team could be something special. So the two young players helped me with my game, just in case I'm needed down the road.
