Police: Students Made Up Story That Woman Pointed Gun At Them
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two Philadelphia schools were temporarily placed on lockdown this morning after four students told their principal that a woman had pointed a shotgun at them.
The reported incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. in the 4600 block of Ella Street in the city's Feltonville section.
According to investigators, four students between the ages of 10 and 13 from the Feltonville School of Arts and Sciences told their principal that they were walking in the alley of Ella Street and began to interact with a dog that was in fence behind a home.
The students said a female inside the home came out and pointed what appeared to be a long shotgun at them. The students ran away and went to their school and told their principal what happened.
School officials called police and the school was immediately placed on lockdown. In addition, nearby Clara Barton School was also placed on lockdown.
Philadelphia police officers, as well as SWAT teams, arrived at the location. SWAT officers used a robot to determine that no one was inside the home. The reported female or gun could not be located.
Officials say the homeowners were were notified and cooperated with the investigation. They have been cleared of any wrong doing says police.
Authorities confirm that after further investigation, it was determined that the students made up the story.
