2 Philadelphia Police Officers Injured In Logan Crash
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Two police officers were injured in a car accident in the city's Logan section Tuesday.
Authorities say the two car crash happened at about 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of 16th and Louden Streets when the police officers were on their way to a call.
According to an eyewitness, the police car had just activated its lights and sirens when it collided with a vehicle occupied by two civilians.
One of the injured officers collapsed onto the street after the crash, while neighbors rushed over to help.
Denise Harris said, "When the cop got out of the car he fell down on the side of his car. The other cop got out of the other side of the car and a gentleman helped him lay him down on the sidewalk."
Investigators tell Eyewitness News that the officers were on a "Priority One" call which requires the use of lights and sirens. They were responding a report of a fight and a person suffering from a seizure about a block away from the scene of the accident.
The driver of the car that collided with the officers identified himself as Trevor. He said of the accident, "He came through the red light and he hit me."
Trevor said he and his passenger saw no warning lights and heard no siren. Neither he nor his passenger were seriously hurt.
The passenger, James LaRosa, said, "It happened almost instantly. In a split second the car was in front of us."
The two police officers both suffered concussions and one officer suffered a dislocated knee.
The two officers were transported to Einstein Medical Center where they were treated and released.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
