2 Killed, 8 Injured In Olney House Fire
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Two children are dead and four adults and four other children are hurt when flames erupt inside a row home in the 100 block of Sparks Street in Olney just before noon Tuesday.
Investigators say the bodies of a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old by were pulled from the home by firefighters after they knocked the blaze down.
Four children ranging in ages from two months to 10 years old were hurt and taken to area hospitals for treatment.
Police and fire officials also say four adults were hurt, two of them suffered burns and are in critical condition at Temple Hospital.
Officials say Engine Company 61, the engine first due to answer the alarm, was out of service for the day due to rotating "brown outs" because of city budget problems.
"Engine 61 was 'browned-out' today," said Lt. Mike Grant of the Philadelphia Fire Department. "Engine 51 took over for them and they got here in good order."
Investigators are attempting to determine what touched off the fire. The home had no working smoke detectors.
