2 Injured In West Philadelphia House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Two people were rushed to the hospital after suffering injuries in a row home fire in West Philadelphia Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out at about 7:30 a.m. inside a home in the 4500 block of Spruce Street.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the center of the building.

According to fire officials, a 40-year-old male was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.

In addition, a 61-year-old female, who suffered burns to her lower body, was rushed to HUP in an unknown condition.

The fire was placed under control shortly after 8:00 a.m.

Three neighboring homes had to be evacuated due to the fire. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist four adults who were displaced.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
