2 Arrested in Camden County Robbery Spree
CAMDEN, N.J., (CBS) -- Two men have been arrested in connection with four armed robberies in Camden County, authorities announced Monday.
Shamar Lee, 23, of Camden, is charged in all four robberies. Raekwon Simmons, 18, also of Camden, is charged with two robberies.
Authorities say the men were identified thanks to assistance from the public, who recognized them in wanted posters and a short video clip of one of the robberies in Woodlynne (see related story).
Simmons was arrested Friday. Members of the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Fugitive Task Force arrested Lee on Sunday.
According to investigators, Lee and Simmons, or Lee alone, are accused of committing robberies with a handgun at convenience stores and markets as well as holding up people on the street throughout November. Many of the incidents took place in the area near Mount Ephraim Avenue, Ferry Avenue and Woodlynne Avenue, where Woodlynne, Haddon Township and Collingswood share borders with Camden.
Investigators say in one case, employees at the business were held in a bathroom. In another, investigators say it is alleged Lee attempted to sexually assault a clerk.
Lee and Simmons are both charged in the following incidents:
- 11/14, Xpress Market, 2500 block of Woodlynne Avenue, Woodlynne. Authorities say both are charged with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
- 11/20, Del Monte's News Shop, 2000 block of Mount Ephraim Avenue in Camden. Authorities say both are charged with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Lee solely has been charged in the following incidents:
- 11/19, Mucha Luna Grocery, 3000 block of Mount Ephraim Avenue in Haddon Township. Authorities say Lee is charged with Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Theft, Criminal Restraint and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
- 11/24, Lilly's Market, 2000 block of Woodlynne Avenue in Woodlynne. Authorities say Lee is charged with Robbery, Sexual Contact, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Both men are being held at the Camden County Jail.
