MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (CBS) – A two-alarm fire heavily damaged a popular diner in South Jersey late Sunday night.
The fire was reported at about 11:30 p.m. at the Golden Dawn Diner on Route 38 in Maple Shade.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames billowing from the roof of the restaurant.
It took firefighters nearly two hours to bring the stubborn blaze fully under control.
Authorities said the building sustained heavy smoke and water damage, but they stopped short of calling it a total loss.
Fire officials say there were workers in the restaurant at the time of the fire, but they were all able to safely escape. The diner closed approximately 30 minutes before the fire was reported. The business did not open Monday.
A firefighter suffered a minor hand injury while battling the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
