Flyers Offer Free Home Opener Tickets To 1 Determined Fan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Phillies are done and the Eagles might as well be. So, Philadelphia sports fans are now counting on the Flyers.
Wednesday night is the home opener for the Flyers. They're 2-0 in the early going this season.
"We look good this year, so hopefully we can bring home a (Stanley) cup -- 'cause none of the other teams are gonna do anything this year," says fan Joe Moore, who spent about 40 minutes this morning digging a hockey puck out of a five-foot high ice sculpture near the clothespin in center city.
"There are 100 pucks frozen in the block of ice in the form of a Flyers logo, and one of them has tickets to opening night," explains Flyers publicist Rebecca Goodman, who adds that hopeful fans may use only their hands -- no tools.
Joe says that with ticket prices as high as they are -- $120 for upper level seats -- he's willing to scratch at an ice sculpture until his fingers bleed. Literally.
"I can feel one thumb on my left hand, that's about it," Joe said afterward. "My finger's bleeding, but for a chance to win opening night tickets, it was worth it."
He didn't win the tickets, but at least he got a free hockey puck.
