150 Nations Mark World Food Day 2011
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Increasing awareness about hunger is the objective of World Food Day, which is being observed Sunday by 150 nations.
If you've had trouble providing food for your family this year, chances are one of your neighbors feels your pain. A Gallop survey finds 19 percent of Americans said yes when asked if there were times in the past year when they didn't have enough money for food.
On the other hand, just six percent of Chinese people surveyed had the same problem.
Miriam Pickett recently visited China and says these numbers are not very surprising.
"I think the government may have more of a safety net for their people than we do here."
She also feels people in China may be afraid to answer these sort of questions truthfully.
"There are certain things you have to be very careful about."
