Multiple Shootings Span The City; One Dead, Seven Injured
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia homicide detectives had a busy night investigating two unrelated homicides – totaling eight victims.
The first homicide occurred just after midnight in South Philadelphia in the 2600 block of Jackson Street when police received word of gunshots.
Police arriving on the scene found an unidentified man wounded in the head. He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he died a short time later.
Investigators were then on the scene in Germantown around 12:45 a.m. where a bar room shooting was reported. Officers arriving on the scene found six people shot inside the Genesis bar in the 4400 block of Wayne Avenue. The six included three men and three women.
One of the six victims, 43-year-old Carl Sharper, was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Two victims were listed in critical condition; the other three were listed as stable.
The shootings apparently followed an argument and confrontation inside the bar. The investigation is ongoing.
In another incident, at approximately 12:28 a.m., Police responded to a report of a shooting in North Philadelphia.
Upon arrival police found a male shot in the street on the 2400 block of West Harlan Street. The 22-year-old male was lying in front of 2418 West Harlan. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Hahnemann Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing. There are no suspects in custody.
