12-Year-Old Girl Injured After Car Crashes Into Kensington Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A speeding car slammed into a home and a 12-year-old girl, sitting in the dining room, is seriously hurt.
"I was on the second floor of my house and I bounced on impact," Pedro Nunez recalled.
Nunez first heard the crash shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening in the 2100 block of Somerset Street in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood.
When Nunez stepped out to investigate, he saw a wrecked car, slammed into the side of his cousin's home that had crashed through the wall, seriously injuring his 12-year-old cousin.
Nunez said, "When the car hit the wall, a piece of the wall pushed her and fell on top of her."
Chief Inspector Scott Small explained, "The front end of the car went about three feet into the house. That's when it struck the 12-year-old girl who was sitting in the house in the dining room, working on her computer."
According to eyewitnesses, the driver was seen speeding down the 2100 block of Somerset Street when he lost control. Police say he first hit a parked car then knocked over a stop sign before hitting the corner home, sending the 12-year-old girl to the hospital as well as the driver's teenage passenger.
Small said, "A 17-year-old passenger in the Ford Taurus was also taken to St. Christopher's with injuries to legs and chest."
As of Tuesday night, police say the 17-year-old was listed in stable condition, the 12-year-old was in serious condition with abdominal injuries.
The only person not hurt in the incident, police say, was the 24-year-old driver who was operating a vehicle reported stolen by the owner.
The 24-year-old is facing charges in connection with the stolen vehicle, aggravated assault and related offenses.
