100 Birds Rescued From Alleged Cockfighting Ring In Hunting Park
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nearly 100 birds were seized from an alleged cockfighting ring in the city's Hunting Park neighborhood.
SPCA officers raided two homes in the 400 block of Fair Hill Street, rescuing roosters, hens and other fighting birds.
Officers say they found drugs, weapons and other drug paraphernalia.
"These birds appear to have been imported from Puerto Rico and trained down there for fighting activity," said George Bengal, Pennsylvania SPCA. "These birds were worth quite a few bucks."
One suspect is under arrest, and police are still searching for at least one other suspect.
