2 Injured In Partial Building Collapse In Queen Village
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two workers were injured after a partial building collapse in Philadelphia Friday afternoon.
The collapse happened at about 1:45 p.m. at a building in the 200 block of Monroe Street in the city's Queen Village section.
Police say two workers inside the demolition project on 2nd and Monroe were injured as a heavy wall fell on top of them in the scaffold they were standing on.
"When the slab came down I heard a lot of hollering, so I went up on my third floor and looked down and saw one of the workman jammed in the elevator shaft with all the wood on top of him," neighbor Jack Kyler said.
Jack Kyler lives next door to the partial collapse. He says when he heard the loud bang he ran inside and found one worker trapped underneath the rubble. He said it looked like he fell three stories.
"His face was all swelled up and bloody and his right eye was closed. But again I don't know what happened to his leg because they were just jammed inside and we couldn't get the wood off of him," Kyler said.
Rescue crews were able to remove him. Police say he was taken to the hospital with lacerations to his head.
"What I'm told he's in stable condition," Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford said.
