Small Chemical Explosion Injures One In South Jersey

PAULSBORO, N.J. (CBS) — Officials have released an update on an early morning chemical plant incident in New Jersey.
Around 6:35 a.m. on Friday, a small explosion reportedly occurred at the Johnson Matthey plant in West Deptford, NJ.
Officials say three employees working in the area at the time of the incident were medically evaluated. Two were released without injury, but a third employee was sent for further medical tests after coming into contact with hydrochloric acid and then released.
Crews reportedly responded to the scene within minutes and the building was evacuated. The situation was placed under control around 8:30 a.m.
The explosion is believed to have been caused by a chemical reaction. Essential staff have returned to work.
The explosion remains under investigation.
