1 Hospitalized In Police-Involved Shooting In Kingsessing
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A male suspect is hospitalized after a police-involved shooting in Kingsessing on Wednesday.
The incident happened at about 3:23 p.m. at S. 53rd Street and Greenway Avenue.
Philadelphia Police say officers were looking for a 19-year-old suspect who was believed to be the gunman in a shooting that occurred just minutes before around the corner.
Authorities say the suspect began firing at police right away, and the officers discharged their weapons.
The suspect was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with gunshot wounds to the face, buttocks, and chest. There is no word on his condition.
Authorities say a silver handgun was recovered at the scene.
There were no injuries to police.
This is the second police-involved shooting in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Police shot and wounded an armed suspect at about 10:30 a.m. during an incident on the 2400 block of 4th Street in North Philadelphia (see previous story).
This is the sixth police-involved shooting in less than two weeks.
