1 Dead, Another Injured In Dirt Bike Accident In Delaware
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) - One teenager is dead and another is seriously injured after a dirt bike accident in Newark, New Castle County Monday afternoon, according to authorities.
Police say at about 1:15 p.m. 16-year-old Nicholas Schrader's Honda dirt bike collided with a Yamaha dirt bike operated by a 14-year-old boy identified as Cody Kegelman.
According to police, Schrader was traveling eastbound on a dirt access road about a quarter of a mile east of Route 72 when he crashed head-on with Kegelman's bike. Both riders were thrown in the air, police say.
Schrader was transported to Christiana Hospital where he is being treated for injuries to his back and head; Kegelman was taken to the same hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending.
Investigators believe Schrader and Kegelman were unable to see each other due to a small hill. Police say both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The incident remains under investigation.
