2 Dead After Car Crashes Into Upper Moreland Home
UPPER MORELAND, Pa. (CBS) - Two people were killed after a car crashed into a house and burst into flames in Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County early Tuesday morning.
Police received a call at about 1:44 a.m. and responded to the 3000 block of Byberry Road, where a car slammed into a home and burst into flames.
Authorities say the fire was placed under control at around 2:30 a.m.
According to investigators, the driver of the car somehow lost control, and struck a van before crashing into the home. The driver and the passenger in the car were killed in the crash.
A ruptured gas tank sparked an explosion, which triggered a fire. The home sustained significant damage and both the vehicle and the van it struck were destroyed.
"I'm just happy that everyone is safe, and everyone got out," said Joseph Cummins. Joseph is the cousin of homeowner James Cummins.
James Cummins tell Eyewitness News he remembers hearing a loud boom around 1:50 Tuesday morning. When he and his wife Jill realized their house was on fire, they quickly grabbed their three sons; 10-year-old Liam, 5-year-old Ewen, and 3-year-old Sean. They were also able to save their dog.

"At least they have each other,"said family member Joseph Cummins. "They can rebuild and they can restart their life, knowing that they're all together."
Investigators are still trying to determine why the driver ended up traveling through the lawn and into the Cummins' parked minivan.
Roads are closed at Byberry between Warminster and Orangemans Road as the investigation continues.
