PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This is the second time in less than a week that shots were fired outside of a Philadelphia school in broad daylight.
Students, some as young as first-graders, were outside at the time of the shooting.
"It was like pow, pow, pow and we all ran into the building."
Breyannah Daniels was outside with her classmates when she heard gunshots go off right next to her charter school.
It happened around 1 p.m. on the corner of 3rd and Cambria Streets.
Police say a man driving a car and a man on foot were firing shots at each other.
That's when the man in the car lost control and hit an innocent bystander who was crossing the street.
Captain Michael Cram says, "They have no concern for the public safety, their environment. It is all about themselves and the criminal lifestyle that they are leading."
The driver was taken to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The other shooter and pedestrian were taken to Hahnemann. They are both are in stable condition.
Police have recovered two guns from the scene.
Friends and family of one the men arrived on the scene looking for answers.
"I'm trying to find out, trying to find out."
School district officials say three nearby schools were out on lockdown.
Parents were immediately alerted and many of them rushed to pick up their children.
They say the violence needs to stop.
Bernice Daniels says, "I'm upset period with all the shootings in Philadelphia. It's everywhere. And I'm definitely angry because it was right in front of my kids' school."
Jermaine Williams adds, "It's terrible these kids are subjected to see all these bad things. Just try to get a hold on it Philadelphia because it's beginning to be out of control and out of hand."
Parents did applaud the school's efforts to keep the children safe.
