1 Killed, 3 Injured In Strawberry Mansion Shooting
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One person was killed and three others were injured during a party in North Philadelphia Sunday night. The incident was one of a reported 22 shootings that capped a violence-filled weekend.
The Sunday night incident occurred at Mander Playground in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city where approximately 200 people gathered for an unauthorized party that included stereo equipment, a generator and a disc jockey.
According to eyewitnesses, at some point during the party, a fight broke out and that fight led to the shooting of an unidentified adult male in the head. The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
In addition to the fatal shooting, three young girls – ages seven, 10 and 15 – were also shot. They were taken to the hospital where they are listed in stable condition.
"It seems like they were just victims of stray bullets," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said.
Ramsey said police believe the unidentified male was the intended target.
So far, no arrests have been made and the shooting remains under police investigation.
