Leonardo DiCaprio does not get raped by a bear in his new movie
Bet that's not a headline you were expecting to see.
Such is the state of the Internet: Contrary to reports, Leonardo DiCaprio does NOT get raped by a bear in his new film, "The Revenant," the latest from Oscar-winning "Birdman" director Alejandro González Iñárritu.
The movie follows an 1820s frontiersman (DiCaprio) on a path of vengeance against the people who left him for dead, and a caps lock-heavy post on The Drudge Report on Tuesday morning claimed, "DICAPRIO RAPED BY BEAR IN FOX MOVIE."
"The bear flips Leo over and thrusts and thrusts during the explicit mauling," it stated, going as far as to say that the scene "caused maximum controversy" and that, "He is raped -- twice!"
Alas, 20th Century Fox was quick to shoot down any bear-rape reports. "As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs," a Fox spokesperson told ET. "There is clearly no rape scene with a bear."
Just because he is not sexually assaulted by wildlife doesn't mean the movie is easy to watch. Or that the experience shooting it was an easier. The 41-year-old actor recently called it "the most difficult things I've ever had to do."
"Whether it's going in and out of frozen rivers, or sleeping in animal carcasses, or what I ate on set," the Oscar nominee recalled. "[I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly. I certainly don't eat raw bison liver on a regular basis. When you see the movie, you'll see my reaction to it, because Alejandro kept it in. It says it all. It was an instinctive reaction."
