X Games To Remain In Aspen For 2 More Years
ASPEN, Colo. (CBS4) - It took a long negotiation, but the X Games are headed back to Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen/Snowmass Village.
The new two-year contract is part of a massive international X Games unveiling by ESPN and Aspen/Snowmass is happy to be part of it.
The games bring in more than 100,000 fans every year and have a significant economic impact on the Roaring Fork Valley.
"It's become a big part of our identity over 11 years. It's a staple on the calendar," John Rigney with Aspen/Snowmass said. "January is rock solid and I think X plays a big role in that."
Local officials saw the games as a big enough incentive they even put up money to secure the contract. A total of $545,000 was put up between the towns of Aspen and Snowmass Village, as well as the Transit Authority and Chamber of Commerce.
