WWII Bomber 'Memphis Belle' To Visit Broomfield

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (AP) — The Memphis Belle, a restored B-17 bomber, is scheduled to be in the Denver suburb of Broomfield next weekend as part of a national tour that aims to raise awareness about World War II.

The B-17, nicknamed the "Flying Fortress," was the workhorse heavy bomber used against the Axis powers. It featured several heavy-caliber machine guns and could strike deep within enemy territory.

The Memphis Belle will fly between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport on Saturday and Sunday with ground tours to follow. Public flights are being offered for $450, and a reservation is required.

The bomber, one of fewer than 15 B-17s that are still airworthy, was used in the 1990 film "Memphis Belle."
