Winds Knock Down Trees In Denver, Injure Construction Worker

DENVER (CBS4) - Strong winds blowing in the Denver metro area on Thursday afternoon knocked down several trees and caused other minor damage.

Denver police said they had at least a dozen emergency calls about trees being knocked down. A CBS4 crew captured an image of a tree down that had a beehive in it at 26th and Yates on Denver's west side, near Sheridan.

A wind gust also blew over a highway sign on an exit ramp at Interstate 70 and Quebec at about 3:30 p.m. and struck a flagger at a construction site. The woman worked for a CDOT subcontractor and was doing work along the Sand Creek Bike Trail when the accident happened. The extent of her injuries weren't clear.

Officials with Xcel Energy said there were several scattered outages across the metro area but none were major. They said there were multiple crews out responding to the power problems.
