Wildfire Claims Garage & Vehicle Near Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- All evacuations spurred by a wildfire burning near Boulder were lifted at 12:45 p.m.

The fire started just before 10 a.m. Saturday in the foothills northwest of Boulder. It was spreading quickly because of high winds. There is a high wind warning in effect for the Front Range and the foothills until midnight.

The fire burned about one half to two acres near Lee Hill Road and Deer Trail Road. One homeowner lost a garage and a pickup truck to the fire.

Boulder County Sheriff conducted a reverse 911 evacuation order to 163 phones in the area located within a one mile radius of the fire. The borders of those homes are Lee Hill Road and Deer Trail Road and south to and including the Carriage Hills subdivision. Those evacuations were lifted about three hours after that fire started.

Firefighters have not determined a cause of the fire. There was a small power outage after the fire ignited, but officials cannot confirm if that is related to the fire or the high winds in the area.

"Unbelievable. People don't like to stay at our house in the fall because of this reason," evacuated resident Julia Longfellow said.

"Kind of mass confusion because there wasn't anyone telling you which roads to follow," Bob Longfellow said. "There are a lot of little trails that go back through the hills, so we got lost twice trying to find the way down,"

Firefighters got the fire fully contained around 2 p.m.

Another grass fire ignited just after 11 a.m. near the first wildfire. It is burning near Sunshine Canyon. Firefighters were quickly getting the upper hand on that wildfire. No structures were threatened in that wildfire.

Boulder police said at the Boulder Farmer's Market, a tree branch broke and struck a woman. She was rushed to the hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be serious. The farmer's market was closed for the day by the market's operators.
