Weekend Standoff Suspect Goes Before Douglas County Judge

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) – The man at the center of a 7 hour standoff over the weekend in Castle Rock now faces numerous charges, including possession of meth and identity theft.

Steven Qualley, a convicted felon, went before a Douglas County judge on Monday. He had warrants for kidnapping, assault and auto theft before the weekend incident.

Qualley, 32, is accused of holing up inside the Quality Inn on Clark Street with several other people. Qualley reportedly was armed with a gun and refused to come out and surrender to police.

At least a dozen guests had to be evacuated along with employees.

About 5 hours after it began a man and woman were led out in handcuffs.

After getting a search warrant police used explosive devices to blow down the door and arrest Qualley.

Police used flash grenades to storm in and arrest qualley.

Police say qualley was armed with a gun.

The new charges Qualley faces are as follows:

- Unlawful Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender
- Theft by Receiving
- Violation of Conditions of Bail Bond (multiple counts)
- Identity Theft

Qualley's bond was set at $500,000.
