Water Main Break Forces Closure Of JeffCo Offices

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - Jefferson County offices in Golden were closed on Friday after a pipe burst.

The break in the 2-inch pipe happened Thursday night on the fifth floor and it sent water through the building.

The downpour of water knocked ceiling tiles out, leaving them a crumpled mess on the floor. Speakers were hanging on by a wire.

There is also damage to office furniture and a room full of computers. A CBS4 crew went inside the building late Thursday night and saw water dripping from the ceilings.

Employees with the information technology department are working on drying out the computer equipment.

"We expect that some of our offices will be open Monday, as many as possible, to keep services with as little disruption as possible," said Jefferson County Public Information Officer Katheryn Heider.

The situation will be assessed through the weekend. If needed, Jefferson County said they will find a temporary location to work out of if their offices aren't usable by Monday.

The courts in Jefferson County are in another wing and are open as usual on Friday.

There is a way to protect yourself before your pipes burst. Watch CBS4 Meteorologist Dave Aguilera's report.
