Walker, Hickenlooper Address Mass Shooting
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper say they both took strength from reaching out to one another when dealing with mass shootings in their states.
Walker and Hickenlooper were asked at a news conference Friday about their different responses to the shootings. They are both attending the National Governors Association meeting in Milwaukee.
Monday marks the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting at a Sikh Temple near Milwaukee that left six worshippers dead. A shooter in Colorado killed 12 people inside a movie theater in July 2012.
Walker, a Republican, emphasized the need for more mental health services following the Wisconsin shooting. But Hickenlooper, a Democrat, says he believes universal background checks are needed to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.
