UNC Sends Out Email Condemning Those Who Allegedly Hurled Objects At Campus Protesters

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - The University Of Northern Colorado is fighting back after alleged attacks on a group of students.

Several people allegedly yelled racist insults and threw objects at students during a campus demonstration last month.

The students had been protesting the school's decision to suspend its Mexican-American Studies program.

UNC President Kay Norton sent out a campus-wide email condemning the attacks. It included the following statement:

I was extremely disappointed to learn that our students were treated so cruelly, and I want to make it very clear that we will not tolerate this type of behavior on our campus.

The attacks allegedly happened during a protest in mid-April on the Greeley campus.

The Mexican-American Studies program at UNC remains suspended while the school works on a plan to boost enrollment.
