Trevor Story Named NL Player Of The Week Once Again
DENVER (CBS4) - Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story has been on a tear all season, but especially lately the rookie has been red hot. On Monday he was named the National League Player of the Week.
Story hit a blistering 4.78 last week and led the majors with six home runs. He was also tied for the MLB lead with 12 RBIs and 10 runs.
On Sunday night against the Atlanta Braves he hit his 27th home run of the season.
"The 27 homers are the most by a rookie shortstop in NL history and are the third-most in Major League history behind Cal Ripken Jr.'s 28 (1982) and Nomar Garciaparra's 30 (1997). Story's 27 long balls surpassed Todd Helton (25 in 1998) for the second-most by a rookie in franchise history, trailing only Wilin Rosario (28 in 2012)," MLB said in a prepared statement.
Despite all that Story is trying not to let all the success go to his head.
"Just take each day one-by-one, you know, don't get too excited about a really good game; don't get too down on yourself after a bad one," Story said. "Just day-by-day, focus on my preparation and find my confidence in that."
It was Story's second National League Player of the Week honor of the season. His first came in April.
