Tourist Restrictions Considered At Maroon Bells
ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Fall leaves are bringing swarms of tourists to Maroon Bells lake, prompting U.S. Forest Service officials to consider restrictions.
Ranger Scott Snelson says as many as 5,000 people a day went to Maroon Lake Friday through Sunday as fall colors at the Bells hit their peak.
According to the Aspen Times, Snelson told Pitkin County commissioners they need to discuss alternatives.
Commissioner George Newman says it may be time to cut off vehicular access. Currently, motorists can drive to Maroon Lake early in the morning and in the evening, when buses aren't running.
