Tipton Meeting With Constituents After Debt Vote

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Republican Rep. Scott Tipton is meeting with constituents in Grand Junction for the first time since voting against the debt ceiling plan.

Tipton was one of three Colorado lawmakers to vote no. The other two were fellow Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado Springs and Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver.

Congress is on recess, giving lawmakers plenty of time to meet with voters in their home districts. After a Friday town hall, Tipton holds another one Monday in Cortez.

Republican Rep. Cory Gardner is meeting with folks in his district in Loveland Monday. Gardner voted for the debt agreement.

Tipton says he voted against the deal because it didn't cut enough spending. He called for "larger steps" to cut spending before the debt ceiling should have been raised.
