Tighter Guidelines Agreed Upon For Denver Short Term Rentals
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver City Council approved new rules for short-term rentals that will affect how people use websites like Airbnb and VRBO in Denver.
Short-term rentals are listings available for 30 days or less. Those living in residential neighborhoods are capable of renting out a room or their entire home on these websites.
According to the new rules, this can only be done if it is your primary home and being made available to others while you're out of town. The city council's decision allows actual hotels to compete with the users of these websites for customers.
The guidelines do not allow for someone to rent out their second home on AirBnb or VRBO. The new plan also requires a license, and the earlier proposal mentioned paying an extra tax.
Those with second homes looking to make some extra cash, as well as those worried about too many strangers coming in and out of the neighborhood, had opposed the bill.
Monday night's vote was for final consideration on the issue, which had first been brought to city council months ago.
