Thornton Police Recover Radioactive Device
THORNTON, Colo. (AP) — A portable device containing radioactive materials that was reported stolen in Thornton over the weekend has been recovered.
Authorities said Wednesday several suspects are in custody and a criminal investigation is under way. The names of the suspects and pending charges have not been released.
The device measures moisture and compaction in soil, asphalt and concrete. State health authorities said the device is safe if it is handled properly and kept intact.
A Denver construction materials testing firm reported the device was stolen from a vehicle parked at an apartment complex in Thornton.
