Theft Charge Dropped Against Brighton Woman
BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped a felony theft charge against an 85-year-old Brighton woman accused of taking thousands of dollars from the West Adams Conservation District.
Prosecutors cited the age and mental state of Mary Shibao in dismissing the charge. Adams County district attorney's spokeswoman Krista Flanagan told The Denver Post there is a documented history of Shibao's mental impairment as well as a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
Flanagan says it's not clear whether Shibao will be required to return the money to the district.
Shibao was a longtime manager of the district. She was accused of funneling thousands of dollars of the district's money to herself and a now-defunct Buddhist temple in Brighton.
