Teacher In Commerce City Faces Child Abuse Allegations
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - A Dupont Elementary School teacher is accused of grabbing a student with both arms, pushing him against a wall and then dragging him down the hallway.
The incident happened on Wednesday morning, and the teacher has been placed on administrative leave.
According to 911 tapes, the principal of the school called police after she was instructed to do so by the head of her human resources department.
The following is a transcription of what that principal told a 911 operator:
I had a teacher pull a student out of a classroom to discipline them for an incident that happened inside. And then he talked to that student for about 10 to 15 seconds and then he -- I don't know how else to say it -- he drug the student down the hallway to another classroom. ... Other staff members heard it in the hallway -- heard the commotion that was going on -- and so I'm calling.
According to the police report, the teacher also yelled at the boy, saying "I don't know why you think you can have a fit in class. You are going to see someone have a fit."
The boy told police he had been bored in class.
The teacher was not arrested but was issued a summons. The case is being investigated by the Adams County Sheriff's office.
