DENVER (CBS4) - The man accused of riding a bicycle to get away after a series of bank robberies appeared in court on Tuesday morning.
Shawn William Scott was arrested after he allegedly shot at police officers at 3rd Avenue and Osage Street on Monday.
Scott, 39, has been accused of robbing five banks in the Denver metro area over the summer. He was dubbed the Bicycle Bandit because he sometimes got away on a bike.
Scott made his first court appearance on Tuesday morning. He faces several charges including attempted first-degree murder, attempted murder of a police officer, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and investigation of two additional armed robberies.
A tow truck driver, who is reportedly now dating Scott's ex-girlfriend, recognized the Scott and called police. According to the arrest affidavit, the tow truck driver told police Scott pointed a gun at him.
