Suspect In Federal Center Bomb Threat Talks Openly To Judge
DENVER (CBS4) – The suspect in Monday's bomb threat at the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood appeared in court on Tuesday.
Jessica Ciccocioppo allegedly claimed to have a bomb in her backpack but it turned out to be a hoax. Authorities shut down a busy stretch of Kipling for hours for the investigation.
Ciccocioppo spoke openly to the judge on Tuesday. She talked about her 3-year-old daughter being taken from her by Jefferson County Social Services and went on to say that she was very upset by that and "that's what started this whole thing."
According to court documents, Ciccocioppo showed up at the main gate of the Federal Center at approximately 10:30 a.m., set her backpack down and told security there was a bomb inside. She was immediately arrested and the Jefferson County Bomb Squad was called in to investigate.
The bomb squad X-rayed the bag saw what appeared to be some wiring inside and decided to blow it up.
The bag was found to have a number of documents inside, including a birth certificate, driver's license and tax documents. No explosives were found.
Ciccocioppo told the judge she was headed to California to start a new life with her daughter but were currently homeless in Colorado. She will be back in court on Friday morning.
