State Senate Sends Adultery Bill To House
DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Senate approved and sent to the House a measure repealing the unenforced crime of adultery.
The bill also repeals the related crime of contributing to "sexual immorality" by providing a place for unmarried people to have sex. That prohibition was aimed at Frontier-era flophouses.
Colorado is one of a handful of states that still have adultery crimes on the books, and there has been little debate about tossing the prohibition.
Republican Sen. Kevin Lundberg of Berthoud argued unsuccessfully that the bill reduces the Ten Commandments to nine commandments and he told colleagues it's not just about a bygone era.
