Teen Accused Of Stabbing Mother Arrested Near Home

EVERGREEN, Colo. (CBS4)- Jefferson County Deputies arrested a teenager who is accused of stabbing his mother after an extensive search on Wednesday.

The stabbing happened at a home in Evergreen Meadows, near 7700 Red Fox Drive, just before noon.

The adult woman was airlifted to St. Anthony's Hospital with stab wounds. Authorities said it appeared she had been stabbed in the back.

Her 15-year-old son ran away from the home and remained on the loose for about two hours as deputies searched for him.

"We're literally going door to door, trying to find the suspect in case he's hiding in a car or garage or shed," said Jacki Kelly with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Police said the woman actually made it about two driveways down from her home before finding someone to call 911. A neighbor told CBS4 the woman was conscious and was sitting up as emergency responders worked on her before taking her to the hospital.

"She was airlifted to a local hospital, which is always a concern when they're airlifted," said Kelly. "It's a stabbing injury, which is always really questionable as to what we're dealing with."

The teen and his mother have not been identified by authorities. The woman's condition has not been released.

Deputies had stopped cars on Highway 73, and conducted a canine track in the neighborhood south of Evergreen and the intersection of North Turkey Creek Road and Highway 73 on Red Fox Drive.

Neighbors said the boy has had a troubled past that involves drugs.

"We're looking at a first-degree assault or a potential attempted murder case," Kelly said.

A reverse 911 call was sent to 580 homes in the area alerting them to the search for the suspect while the teen remained at large.
