Second Man Arrested In Broomfield Suspicious Powder Case
BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) – Investigators have made another arrest in connection to the case of a suspicious powder that prompted the evacuation of an office building in Broomfield. That powder turned out to be a sugar substitute.
"It's definitely kind of scary when there is a substance at our work and we don't know what it is," said Bright Horizons employee Kristine Miller.
Miller works inside Bright Horizons where the powder was found in an office on the third floor.
"An employee arrived to her office and found a white substance on her desk," said North Metro Fire District spokeswoman Sarah Farris.
Wade Daniel Stonier, 30, was arrested Wednesday morning on charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal tampering.
Police say Stonier and John Anthony Martinez, 42, who was arrested last week, placed a suspicious looking white powder on the desk of an office worker in Broomfield.
The discovery of the substance was made last Thursday at 8:38 a.m. inside the office, which is in a business park at 2655 West Midway Boulevard. Authorities evacuated more than 100 people and Hoyt Street near Midway Boulevard was closed for at least an hour as crews cleared the scene.
"I've been here for six months and I haven't noticed anybody who is hostile or angry. Everybody is really friendly and we all get along just fine," said Miller.
After testing the substance the fire department determined the powder was a sugar substitute and wasn't hazardous.
