Second Body Discovered In Rubble Of Exploded Colorado Springs Home

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A second body has been discovered in the burned rubble of a Colorado Springs home that exploded on Wednesday.

Fire officials have ruled out the possibility that there may have been a third person inside the home when it went up in flames.

The home exploded late Tuesday, waking neighbors and sending up flames visible a mile away.

"We heard a real loud boom. It sounded like a bomb to me," neighbor Fred Fyinn said.

"The second explosion, it blew up. When it went off it blew through the doors … the whole front wall of the house flew off," neighbor Ron Sanders, Jr. said.

One body was found in an upper bedroom on Wednesday evening. Authorities could not say Thursday if the bodies could be that of a 74-year-old woman, and her 51-year-old son who live in the home and were considered missing.

Neighbor Ron Sanders Sr. said the vehicles belonging to the home's residents, Edna Ainbinder and her son, were parked at the home.

"Lost a good friend. She knew me ever since I was growing up through teens, came to my graduation, birthday, was always around for family functions," Sanders, Jr. said.

Another neighbor, Eddie Trujillo, said he heard a loud boom and felt his windows shake. Others who were blocks away also reported feeling their houses shake.

Fire investigators scoured the scene along with major crimes investigators. Crews also reportedly dug up a gas line to try and ruled out the possibility of a gas explosion. The cause of the fire remains under investigation Thursday afternoon.

The bodies of two deceased dogs were also discovered in the rubble.

Neighboring homes were also damaged because the flames were so hot when the fire was at its strongest. The siding on one neighboring house is melted, but was not damaged inside, according to firefighters.

Brandon Rosenberg lives more than a mile from the scene of the fire but could still see the flames from his third floor apartment. He shot some video from his digital camera and posted it on YouTube.
