Man Suspected In 75 Mile Chase Appears In Court
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - The 28-year-old man authorities say is responsible for a series of carjackings and a 75 mile chase through the Denver metro area appeared in court on Thursday.
Ryan Stone, a former prison inmate, face numerous charges for allegedly carjacking several vehicles in March after stealing a car with a 4-year-old boy inside, and seriously injuring a state trooper as he led police on an hour-long chase along metro-area highways.
The chase on March 12 started in Longmont and ended in Lone Tree.
On Thursday in Douglas County Court the judge granted the prosecution access to his medical records.
Attorneys previously had raised questions about his ability to understand the court system. The results of an evaluation on his competency are expected next month.
The charges Stone faces include attempted murder, kidnapping and carjacking.
A Colorado state trooper, Bellamann Hee, was severely injured in the chase when he was clipped by a car allegedly driven by Stone while Hee was trying to lay down stop sticks.
Stone faces 16 years to life in prison.
